Focus

The focus of my action research project is the use of Wikis to encourage Level 4 nursing students to develop their academic writing skills in their own time and place. After each face to face session, they have the opportunity to apply the concepts of academic writing by accessing the e-tivities created on the Wiki (integrated into the course organisation shell in Bb). The tasks need to be completed before the next face to face session, to enable me to give them feedback in a timely manner.
I believe that the Wiki is found to be unique for the following reasons:
  1. texts can be collaboratively edited by multiple people
  2. anyone can write, edit and publish their own work
  3. people-centred tools (Brereton, Donovan & Viller 2003)
  4. can be organised by categories, subjects - besides chronologically
  5. can be configured to give selective access
